Hoda Tawakol’s Jungle is inspired by the captivating and dense jungle paintings of post-impressionist painter Henri Rousseau whom never visited jungles yet depended on sourced drawings images and stories from French missionaries arriving back from Mexico or Papa New Guinea as imaginary genesis and inspiration. Rousseau was able to harness his creativity to create an enchanted world an escape from his reality. In this monumental textile work, Tawakol channels a similar notion of creation through imagination. in exploring Jungle, the viewer can escape reality and explore the fabric toy like trees and leaves overlapping through a wild and vibrant colour palette of blues and greens.
