Abdelkader Benchamma is presenting a collection of paintings, drawings, and wall works created during his stay at Palazzo Butera in Palermo in conjunction with the Institut Français for his third solo exhibition at Templon. The artist, who had been interested in the Cosmati for some years, decided to take a fresh look at this subject during his residency: the unusual use of marble that, when placed symmetrically in Italian churches or broken up in marquetry, plays eerily with our modern standards of representation. These mineral veins produce forms that seem to emerge in a curious area between figurative and abstract art.
