The series First Rain's Always a Surprise carries images from Haerizadeh's mum's personal photo album as a student in England, during the Islamic Revolution and the war. She was part of the first generation of kids that went abroad to study. Hengameh lived in England and regularly headed to the Swiss mountains for her winter vacation. The retrieved images of innocence are injected with actual events happening at the time. The images are perverted and so is life, all of it becoming a big chaos. In this entire series Haerizadeh uses images of his mum at the time of the Islamic Revolution and during the war in Tehran. They show the mystery of the truth held in photographs, as traces of something or a piece of reality. The artist confronts the personal photographs with events that were taking place during the same time period.
In this work, behind the figure and its shadow, there is mourning procession where heavy fake palm trees are carried through passionate parades. These fake palm trees are integrated in the surrounding landscape, mirrored and forming patterns. The shadow of the figure is created through printing the central figure.
